Ode to the Cupcake

Oh, sweet, delicious cupcake,
your flavorful frosting is so enticing
to me. You seduce me with sugary
scrumptiousness, you call for me to
consume you.

Oh, strawberry-frosted vanilla cupcake,
sprinkled with delight, a temptress
you are. You know my inner workings;
you are my weakness.

Oh, cake of many cups, bite-sized
wonder, you bedazzle the plates you rest
upon. You’re independent, able to stand alone,
but also complimentary, bringing out
the best facets of every companion
near you.

Oh, dear, beloved cupcake, just one
is not enough. You make me hunger
for more, my craving insatiable.

Oh, cupcake, the last of its
kind, I pick you up and allow
your final journey through the
highway of my human body,
an expedition or my entrails,
a mysterious myriad of twists
and turns, to begin at long last.

Wrote this for my little brother, Matthew, because he loves cupcakes and told me to write him a poem about them. Hope you enjoyed it!

Ode to Sleep

Sleep, oh, wondrous sleep, my escape
at night to recharge, my retreat in the
day, too, the king of the realm of dreams,

you flood me when I rest my heard on
my pillow. You allow me to look to my
future unhindered, to imagine unimaginable

things. Oh, sweet sleep, sweet dreams
arrive when I close my eyes. I envision
retribution and revolution, craving some

sort of salvation. Sleep, my dear, sleep,
you e,power and energize me; you grant
me passage to my own personal Eden.

Sleep, you are wonderful, extraordinary,
incredible; but now it is time for you
to lay yourself to rest, so sleep, sleep.

Ode to Cody

Oh Cody, dressed in flannel apparel,
Looking life somewhat of a lumberjack
With khakis. The red, white, and blue

Of your shirt show your true patriotism,
While the hair that laces your chin says,
“‘Murcia!” Instead of following your

Tree-slaying appearance,mayor construct the
Most beautiful letters on your paper
With your pen. The black ink reads

Your facial expression. The dancing
Letters saw you smile, heard you chuckle,
Felt your glee. They screamed for you to

Return, moor they are lost without your
Guidance, your grace. Oh Cody, return to
Them. Grace them again, show them your

Beard. Unveil to everyone that the lumberjack
Is a wordsmith. Oh, Cody, with your romantic
Red, pure white, and soulful blue, continue to

Create, as creation is the only thing more amazing than you.
